Most “lofi generators” today are AI tools: you type a prompt, wait, and get a finished file. Our lofi generator works differently. It is a free lofi beat generator online that the Loop & Drift team wrote by hand, and it plays live, for as long as you want, and lets you steer it while it plays.
There is no AI model and there are no recorded samples. Every sound, from the kick drum to the rainy piano, is synthesised in real time by your browser’s Web Audio API.
How to use the lofi generator
- Press play. The first tap lets your browser play sound; after that the beat runs until you stop it.
- Choose a style in the Sound panel (sliders icon in the player bar): Lofi, Rainy lofi, Jazz hop, Boom bap, Chill trap, Chillhop, Synthwave, Bossa lofi or Ambient.
- Set the key and tempo. For a chapter at 1 am, slow a Rainy lofi beat to the low 60s. For an early morning, push Boom bap into the 90s.
- Pick the harmony. Each style has named chord progressions, from plain triads to thick jazz chords, and the Harmony slider decides how rich they get.
- Shape the groove. In the Groove tab, set swing, humanise, hi-hat and melody density, or tap the 16-step drum grid to write your own pattern.
- Mix and colour the sound. Change the drum kit, keys (Rhodes, piano, pad, guitar pluck, organ), bass (sub, 808, upright, synth) and melody. Add sidechain pump, tape saturation, bit-crush and wow & flutter, plus reverb, a “next room” muffle and vinyl crackle.
- Save or share it. Name the beat and save it as a preset, or copy a share link that rebuilds the exact beat for a friend. You can also record up to 10 minutes as an audio file.

Why an instrumental lofi generator helps you focus
Research on studying with music keeps coming back to one point: it is the lyrics that do the damage, far more than the music itself. In a 2023 experiment, music with lyrics hurt verbal memory, visual memory and reading comprehension compared with silence, while instrumental music didn’t reliably help or hurt (Journal of Cognition). A large review of reading studies found that intelligible speech and lyrical music were the most distracting kinds of background sound (Applied Cognitive Psychology, 2025).
So for reading-heavy work, an endless instrumental stream from the lofi generator is a sensible default. It suits long sittings for a few other reasons too:
- It is predictable. The loops shift gently every few bars, so after a minute or two you stop following the music.
- No ads, and no sudden jump to a new track halfway through a chapter.
- You decide the energy. If lunch has made you sleepy, raise the tempo. If tomorrow’s mock test has you anxious, switch to Ambient.
We should be clear about its limits too. There is little evidence that any music makes you smarter. What it can do is give your mind a quiet, pleasant room to work in, which counts for a lot when the cooler is rattling and the neighbours have the TV on.
How the lofi generator makes its music
Each beat starts from a seed number, so “Beat #4171” will always play the same notes. A tiny sequencer walks through 16 steps per bar and schedules every note slightly ahead of time on the audio clock, the approach from Google’s well-known article “A tale of two clocks”. It keeps the timing tight even when your laptop is busy with twenty other tabs.

Is this lofi generator really free?
Yes. No account, no subscription and no watermark on the sound. It is a lofi music maker that runs entirely inside your browser.
Is it AI-generated music?
No. There is no AI model involved.
The generator follows musical rules we wrote ourselves (chord progressions, rhythms, melody motifs) and uses a random seed to vary them. That is why it starts instantly and keeps playing as long as you leave it on.
Can I use recordings in my YouTube videos or reels?
You can record up to 10 minutes of any beat for personal listening. To use a recording in your own videos, please credit “Music: Loop & Drift generator (lofi.aivapour.com)”. For monetised or commercial use, message us on our YouTube channel first; we’re happy to help.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the lofi generator needs no internet, because the music is synthesised on your device. If the Wi-Fi drops mid-session, the beat carries on. The Hindi radio does need a connection, since it streams from YouTube.
Why is there no sound on my phone?
Check the silent switch or ring mode first; some phones mute web audio in silent mode. Then tap play once more, since browsers only allow sound after you interact with the page.
Can I share a beat with a friend?
Yes. In the Save tab, tap Copy share link and drop it in your batch’s WhatsApp group. Anyone who opens it hears exactly the same beat, custom drum pattern included.
